The next volume in their musical anthology due for release next week, THE PLOT IN YOU continues the journey with Vol. 3.

There has always been a certain uniqueness to THE PLOT IN YOU. A band now in their teenage years together, they’ve chosen to follow a narrative driven not by linearity, expectation nor convention but emotion, authenticity and self-conceptualisation.

Their music evolutionary and characterised by an intense and raw vulnerability, TPIY’s story so far has been nothing short of unorthodox. Unencumbered from an early age by the constraints of defining and affixing themselves to a single genre, their daring comes and is driven from within; the third installation of their EP series is absolutely no exception to this rule.

At intervals throughout the year, in a process frontman LANDON TEWERS rejoiced for its enjoyment, and with relief that “it worked out”, TPIY released the first two-of-four volumes of their uniquely curated compendium. Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 coming out in January and May respectively, Vol. 3 is now poised as the penultimate set, scheduled for release on Friday, November 8.

The first two collections amassing an impressive 60 million streams since release, Vol. 3 is certain to build upon the formers’ success and trajectory. Replicating the format of the aforementioned also, this chapter offers three new tracks for their audience to devour.

August’s lead single begins, metaphorically as well as literally; Been Here Before is a frenetically paced, lyrically raw vocalisation of the “push and pull nature” of relationships. Influenced by and implementing a pop-punk dynamic for the first time, the universality in the messaging is resonant and sometimes sobering, contrasted against the vitality and energy of the instrumental line.

Just over a month after its individual issue, Pretend has already skyrocketed to take place amongst TPIY’s most streamed songs and turns introspection outward. Employing elements of electronica, there is a distinct echo of the band’s future tourmates; BRING ME THE HORIZON’s trademarked sound elevated by the subtlety of TEWERS’ vibrato and delicate articulation of the “depressing nature of the current state of the world.”

Concluding in crushing style is the previously unreleased Spare Me. Careening between gravelly screams and airy swells, distorted guitar breakdowns and penetrating drums, the track is potentially as close to traditional interpretations of metalcore since Vol. 1’s visceral closer, Forgotten.

With Vol. 4 still currently in development, and the promise that a cumulated form will take shape when something “clever and suitably special” reveals itself, the pending addition of Vol. 3 to the collection assures: there is much to marvel at in the meantime.
